Aims and Regulations.

Whilst it is true that originally the Society was formed to perform, in the main, Gilbert and Sullivan, it has been necessary for the Society to "move with the times". Following the formative years the Society moved into performing light Operetta e.g. The Merry Widow but in recent times it has been difficult to recruit the necessary voices to produce such works. The Society then moved on to more modern Musicals such as "Oklahoma".

The decline of  the adult membership prompted the Committee of the time to choose shows which required larger numbers of children, which actually led to a successful revival of  OLAOS.

The rehearsals lead to many friendships and bonds being formed amongst the members. The necessary discipline surrounding the shows develops confidence in both children and adults and, where applicable they also receive lessons in singing, acting and movement.

Several of the cast have other family members in the Society which allows them to participate as "a family".

The Society enables it's members to have fun, in a safe environment with like minded people who aim to present "professional" shows to the community.....

-----------------------------------------------------

The following enforcement's came into force from the new regulations born from the Nolan report....

* The Society is to remain a sodality of Our Lady's as the aims of the Society still meet the necessary criteria.
* All adult members and helpers have to complete a Volunteer Application form which has to be sent to the Diocese of Shrewsbury, Office of Child protection. In addition, in the near future, all adults will have to have CRB clearance.
* A parental consent form has to be issued for all junior members and when returned completed, kept on record by the Society.                                                                              (Both of  the above conditions do not pose any great difficulty for the Society other than to cause more administrative work)
* A Register must be kept and a Qualified First Aider to be in attendance at all times. (Both conditions are already in operation)
